Very Fuel Get This Pun

I seem to find these abandoned petrol stations on my travels far too often! Today’s is on the A29 south of Pulborough in West Sussex.
Image 2 in this gallery shows last recorded transactions still showing on the surviving pumps’ displays; apparently diesel was 98.9p per litre, dating the station’s closing at either around 2008 or 2005 (yeah, for some reason I remember historical petrol prices).

Picture 4 highlights the rural remoteness of this place; the pumps are padlocked and rusting, the forecourt is overgrown and this site will probably never reopen – particularly as it is barely a half a mile since the previous filling station which is still in business. I remember well this Esso garage being open. –
The A29, incidentally, is the old Roman road “Stane Street” that was built between modern day Chichester (Noviomagus Reginorum) and London (Londinium) some 2000 years ago. In some places it seems like they haven’t resurfaced it in the mean time …..
